Jamalpur, July 28 (V7N) – The National Citizens Party (NCP) has called for the upper house of parliament to be formed based on the proportion of votes rather than parliamentary seats, raising concerns about the party’s support for the proposed July Charter if this demand is not addressed.
Speaking to reporters at the Dak Bungalow in Jamalpur on Monday morning, NCP convener Nahid Islam said, “The outline of basic reforms must be clearly stated in the July Charter. We believe that the upper house should reflect the share of votes cast by the people, not the number of seats won in parliament.”
Nahid Islam warned that NCP may reconsider signing the July Charter unless a consensus is reached on this issue, emphasizing that the charter must represent true democratic reforms.
Earlier in the day, the central leadership of NCP met with families of 11 martyrs of the July uprising and inquired about their well-being, expressing solidarity with those who lost their loved ones in the movement.
As part of the NCP’s ongoing July March, party leaders are participating in various programs across Jamalpur. Monday’s march began in the Tamaltala area and proceeded through multiple city streets before concluding in the Criminal area, where a public meeting was held. The leaders are scheduled to continue their journey toward Mymensingh as part of their national mobilization campaign.
