Rajbari, November 7, 2026 (V7N) – State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom said Saturday that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has asked officials to advance plans for a second Padma Bridge as per the electoral pledges.
He was speaking at a discussion at Rajbari Pourashava Community Centre marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day. BNP's Rajbari District Unit organised the event.
Recalling their movement for a bridge over the Padma at the Daulatdia-Paturia point during the "fascist Awami League regime," the state minister said the then government had rejected their demand. The BNP subsequently included the issue in its electoral pledges to build the bridge, he added.
The state minister also mentioned that Rajbari did not see any development during the "fascist regime."
Describing the significance of the solidarity day, Khyom said the masses freed Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman from captivity on November 7, 1975, and urged him to take the helm of the country.
