RAJSHAHI, July 16, 2026 (V7N) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir has said police must serve as servants of the people and earn public trust through professionalism, skills, and knowledge acquired through training.

He made the remarks while addressing the basic training closing parade of 500 trainees of the 42nd Cadet Sub-Inspector (SI)-2025 batch as chief guest at the Bangladesh Police Academy parade ground in Sardah, Rajshahi, today.

Addressing the newly commissioned officers, the IGP said maintaining law and order, suppressing crime, and ensuring the safety of people's lives and property are the sacred duties of the police. He instructed them to perform their duties with honesty, dedication, transparency, and professionalism, rising above fear and temptation.

Mentioning that transparency and accountability are prerequisites of a democratic policing system, he urged them to be firm in curbing crime while remaining polite, humane, and friendly towards the public. He also stressed the importance of acquiring technological skills to tackle rapidly evolving crime trends, particularly cybercrime.

The IGP advised the new officers to develop expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital forensics to combat various technology-based crimes, including online gambling and the spread of rumours on social media.

Principal of the Bangladesh Police Academy G M Azizur Rahman was present at the ceremony, while Assistant Superintendent of Police Shubh Kumar Ghosh served as parade commander. Among others, Abu Sayeed Chand, MP, senior police officers, military and civil officials, freedom fighters, parents of the graduating SIs, local dignitaries, and media personnel attended the event.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the chief guest received the parade salute and inspected the parade.

Among the award recipients, Shahriar Hasan Sijan (PA-42312) was named Best Cadet, Md. Saiful Islam (PA-42806) Best in Academics, Toukir Ahmed (PA-42324) Best in Field Activities, Ashraful Islam (PA-42503) Best Swimmer, and Md. Kamran Sheikh (PA-42339) Best Shooter. The IGP later presented awards to the outstanding trainees for their excellence in various aspects of training.
