APR 20 (V7N) — The government has formed a one-member investigative committee to examine allegations of corruption in the distribution of relief rice to fishermen in Daulatkhan upazila.
Bijon Kumar Nandi, Fisheries Officer of Patuakhali, has been appointed to lead the inquiry. His mandate is to review distribution records, interview recipients, and identify any administrative failures or illegal practices.
The relief program was introduced after a two-month fishing ban on the Meghna River, aimed at protecting the environment but leaving thousands of fishermen without income. Each registered fisherman was promised 80 kg of rice to support their families during the ban.
However, reports surfaced that fishermen in Daulatkhan were receiving only 50 kg instead of the full quota, raising concerns about misappropriation of aid.
The Ministry said the probe is intended to ensure transparency and accountability. Legal action will be recommended against those found responsible for irregularities.
