Jhalokathi, Sept 6 (V7N) – In an inspiring display of awareness and responsibility, a group of primary school children in Rajapur upazila of Jhalokathi have been praised for preventing a potential road accident by marking a dangerous roadside crater with red flags. Their quick action drew attention from authorities, leading to the swift repair of the road.

The incident took place near a Bailey bridge connecting road in the Gazirhat area, where heavy rainfall had created a large pothole. For several days, vehicles and pedestrians had been moving along the road at great risk. Concerned by the danger, four young students—Jarif Hawlader (Class 3, Roll 16), son of Jamal Hawlader; Amin Sikder (Class 5, Roll 18), son of Abdul Gaffar Sikder; Tawhid (Class 4, Roll 20), son of Jahangir Hawlader; and Abdullah Biswas (Class 4, Roll 6), son of Abu Bakar Biswas—decided to act.

The children, all students of 49 No. Dakshin Putiakhali Government Primary School, tied red cloths near the pothole to alert drivers and pedestrians from a distance. Their initiative was soon noticed by local journalist Aminul Islam, who reported on the issue. Following the media coverage, the Roads and Highways Department promptly carried out repair work on the site, eliminating the risk.

Teachers at Gazirhat Government Primary School expressed pride in the students’ actions, noting that such awareness and responsibility at a young age set a powerful example for adults. “We are proud of our students’ initiative. If children can take responsibility in this way, there is much for elders to learn from them,” one teacher said.

Meanwhile, social media users have widely praised the students’ efforts, describing their initiative as a lesson in civic responsibility. Locals commented that beyond academics, engaging children in such socially conscious activities plays a vital role in shaping a responsible future generation.
