Buenos Aires, Jun 21 (V7N) – An Argentine woman who describes herself as a witch has claimed that spiritual rituals and positive energy played a role in Argentina's triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
According to a BBC report, 41-year-old Dalia Walker from Buenos Aires believes supernatural forces contributed to Argentina's historic World Cup victory.
"I think magic helped Argentina win," Dalia said.
Walker claims to have performed rituals on behalf of Argentina captain Lionel Messi and the national team as part of a group of self-proclaimed witches known as "La Bruzineta." The name combines the Spanish word bruja (witch) with "La Scaloneta," the popular nickname of Argentina's national team under head coach Lionel Scaloni.
Dalia said members of the group practiced New Age spiritual rituals using candles, prayers and amulets, believing these acts could send positive energy to the team during the tournament.
Following Argentina's World Cup victory in Qatar, members of La Bruzineta viewed the achievement as recognition of their efforts.
"For me, it was really the World Cup of witches," Dalia said.
According to Walker, members of the group coordinated through WhatsApp groups and social media platforms to discuss which aspects of the team's performance they believed required spiritual support.
She said some members favored rituals intended to "freeze" the energy of key opposition players, although she personally does not support such practices. Instead, Dalia said she prefers rituals focused on positivity, including lighting candles, offering prayers and sending what she described as "good energy" to the Argentine squad.
There is no scientific evidence that spiritual rituals or magic influence the outcome of sporting events. Argentina's 2022 FIFA World Cup victory is officially attributed to the team's performances on the field under the leadership of Lionel Scaloni and captain Lionel Messi.
