Rangamati, June 27 (V7N) - A housewife named Ayesha Begum, 48, was murdered in Ward No. 2 of Shublong Union under Barkal upazila in Rangamati. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on Sunday, June 21.
Family members alleged that miscreants entered the house, killed her, and looted about Tk 3.5 lakh in cash.
The deceased, Ayesha Begum, was the wife of Rafiqul Islam of the area.
According to family sources, Ayesha Begum was alone at home at the time. Her husband and children were away on family work.
Taking advantage of this, unidentified miscreants entered the house.
It is suspected that after entering the house to loot, the assailants struck Ayesha Begum on the head with a hard object when she recognized them. She died on the spot due to severe bleeding.
Her elder brother said that after hearing screams in the evening, they rushed to the house and found Ayesha Begum lying on the floor in a pool of blood with heavy bleeding from her head. The almirah drawers in the house were also found broken. Family members claim the miscreants took around Tk 3.5 lakh kept in the house.
The incident was immediately reported to Barkal Police Station. Upon receiving the news, police left for the scene. Police said the body would be recovered and sent to Rangamati General Hospital for autopsy.
Police said they will inspect the scene and begin an investigation to identify the motive and those involved.
The incident has created a stir in the area. Locals have demanded the immediate arrest of the killers and exemplary punishment.
