Rangamati, July 16 (V7N) — The popular Sajek Valley tourist destination in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila has reopened for visitors from Thursday after remaining closed for nine days due to continuous heavy rainfall, landslide risks and flash floods.

The decision was taken by the Rangamati district administration following an improvement in weather conditions. However, tourists have been advised to remain highly cautious during the monsoon season and strictly follow safety instructions issued by the authorities.

A notification signed by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi on Wednesday afternoon confirmed the reopening of Sajek Valley and other tourist spots across the district. The Deputy Commissioner also confirmed the decision.

Additional District Magistrate of Rangamati Nishat Sharmin said all tourist destinations in the district were being reopened from Thursday as the weather situation had improved after nine days of closure.

The district administration had shut down Sajek Valley from the evening of July 7, considering the risks of landslides and adverse weather conditions based on forecasts from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. The move was taken to ensure the safety of tourists and local residents.

Meanwhile, tourism-related businesses welcomed the decision, saying the prolonged closure had caused significant financial losses for local entrepreneurs.

Sajek Resort Owners Association President Suparna Deb Barman and Office Secretary S.M. Ziaul Haque said Sajek’s economy largely depends on tourism, and the reopening of the destination would provide much-needed relief to local businesses affected by the decline in tourist arrivals.

They expressed hope that the return of visitors in a safe environment would help revive Sajek’s tourism sector and allow affected businesses to recover.
