Dhaka, Jun 07 (V7N) – The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled several alleged push-in attempts by India's Border Security Force (BSF) along different border points of the country, preventing more than 100 people from entering Bangladesh illegally, according to border officials.

Authorities said BSF personnel attempted to push groups of people through border areas in Meherpur, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, Naogaon, Chapainawabganj and Panchagarh on Saturday. However, the attempts were reportedly thwarted due to the strict vigilance of BGB members and cooperation from local residents.

In Meherpur, six individuals were allegedly brought to the Hatpara border area in Tentulbari early in the morning. After local residents informed BGB personnel, border guards took position and prevented their entry into Bangladesh.

A similar incident was reported at the Mashalgaon border in Thakurgaon, where BSF personnel allegedly attempted to push 11 people across the frontier. BGB members responded quickly and blocked the effort. During a subsequent flag meeting, BSF officials reportedly denied the allegations and declined to take responsibility for the individuals who remained near the zero line.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin Hasan, commander of the Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB), said border guards remain prepared to prevent any form of illegal infiltration and push-in activities.

Another attempt was reported at the Ghasuria border in Hili, Dinajpur, where five individuals were stopped by BGB personnel before entering Bangladesh. Security and surveillance have since been intensified in the area.

In Lalmonirhat, an attempt to push 33 people into Bangladesh through four separate border points also failed. BGB officials said strict monitoring and round-the-clock patrols forced Indian authorities to take the individuals back across the border.

The media cell of 15 BGB confirmed that all persons gathered near the border for the alleged push-in attempt were eventually returned to Indian territory.

Officials also reported that on Friday, BSF personnel allegedly attempted to push 17 individuals through the Sapahar border in Naogaon. Following nearly 19 hours of negotiations and monitoring, the group was reportedly taken back to the Indian side later that night.

Meanwhile, ten individuals remain stranded near the zero line in the Barabari Pradhan Para border area of Panchagarh's Harivasa Union. Border authorities from both countries have yet to reach a decision regarding their status.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Sirajul Islam, commander of the 56th BGB Battalion in Nilphamari, said a commander-level flag meeting had been held between BGB and BSF representatives and that Bangladesh strongly protested the incident.

Separately, BGB officials in Bandarban reported that 47 members of the Khumi community crossed into Bangladesh from Myanmar on Friday night. They were later detained in the Remakri area and subsequently returned across the border.

BGB officials reiterated their commitment to protecting the country's borders and preventing unauthorized entry while maintaining communication with neighboring border forces to address such incidents through established mechanisms.
