Sylhet, Jan 05 (V7N) — The nomination process for six constituencies in Sylhet district has concluded, with a total of 46 candidates submitting their papers. After verification, the district returning officer canceled the nominations of seven candidates and temporarily withheld another seven.
In Sylhet-1 (Sylhet City and Sadar), eight out of ten nominations were approved. The nominations of Ehateshamul Haque (National Citizens Party) and Pranab Jyoti Pal (Basader) were withheld. Valid candidates include BNP advisor Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Maulana Habibur Rahman, Communist Party’s Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Insaniyat Bipol Bangladesh’s Md. Shamim Mia, Ganadhikar Parishad’s Akmal Hossain, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Mahmudul Hasan, Khelafat Majlis’ Tajul Islam Hasan, and Socialist Party (Marxist) candidate Sanjay Kanti Das.
In Sylhet-2 (Bishwanath and Osmani Nagar), six out of nine nominations were approved, with two canceled and one withheld. Approved candidates include BNP’s Tahsina Rushdi Luna, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Professor Abdul Hannan, Khelafat Majlis’ Mohammad Muntasir Ali, Jatiya Party’s Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Maulana Amir Uddin, and Ganoforum’s lawyer Md. Mujibul Haq. Two independent candidates, Abrar Ilyas and Abdus Shaheed, had their nominations canceled, while Ganadhikar Parishad candidate Jaman Ahmad Siddiqui’s nomination was temporarily withheld.
In Sylhet-3 (South Surma, Fenchuganj, and Balaganj), six out of nine candidates were validated. Two independent candidates’ nominations were canceled, and one BNP candidate, Abdul Malik’s nomination was withheld. Valid candidates include Jamaat-e-Islami’s Maulana Lokman Ahmad, NCP’s Barrister Nurul Huda Juned, Khelafat Majlis’ Dilawar Hossain, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis’ Musleh Uddin Raju, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Redwanul Haq Chowdhury, and Jatiya Party’s Mohammad Atikur Rahman.
In Sylhet-4 (Jaintiapur, Goainhat, and Kompani Gan), five out of seven candidates were validated. One candidate’s nomination was canceled and one withheld. Valid candidates include former mayor and BNP advisor Ariful Haq Chowdhury, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Zainal Abedin, Khelafat Majlis’ Ali Hasan Osama, NCP’s Rashedul Alam, and Ganadhikar Parishad’s Zahirul Islam. Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Maulana Saeed Ahmad’s nomination was canceled, while Jatiya Party’s Mohammad Mujibur Rahman Dalim’s nomination was withheld.
In Sylhet-5 (Kanaighat and Zakiganj), five out of six nominations were approved. NCP candidate Mohammad Saifuddin Khaled’s nomination was canceled. Approved candidates include BNP-led alliance’s Maulana Ubaidullah Faruq, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Hafiz Anwar Hossain Khan, independent BNP leader Mamunur Rashid, Khelafat Majlis’ Mohammad Abul Hasan, and Bangladesh Muslim League’s Md. Bilal Uddin.
In Sylhet-6 (Golapganj and Beanibazar), three out of six nominations were approved, one canceled, and two withheld. Valid candidates include BNP candidate and district general secretary Advocate Emran Ahmad Chowdhury, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Muhammad Selim Uddin, and Jatiya Party’s Abdun Nur. Independent candidate Maulana Fakhrul Islam’s nomination was canceled, while BNP’s Foysal Ahmad Chowdhury and Ganadhikar Parishad’s Zahidur Rahman had their nominations temporarily withheld.
The Sylhet district returning officer’s verification ensures that only eligible and properly documented candidates proceed to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
