Rangamati, Sept 17 (V7N) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted a raid at the Rangamati Hill District Council over multiple allegations of corruption, including tender manipulation, bribery, extortion through bill delays, and absenteeism of officials.
The operation was led on Wednesday morning by Md. Zahid Kalam, Deputy Director of the ACC’s Rangamati office. Speaking to reporters, he said, “We received complaints against the council regarding tender manipulation, bribery, bill-related extortion, and absenteeism of officials. Following directives from the head office, we carried out the raid. During the visit, we found that most officials and staff were absent. We also requested necessary records, but in most cases, they failed to provide them.”
On an ongoing investigation against the Executive Engineer, Kalam said, “One file is already under review, and the new allegations will also be examined.”
According to ACC officials, a total of 16 allegations have been raised against the council, covering areas such as market funds, poultry farms, youth development, cooperatives, social services, the primary education office, as well as recruitment and transfer trade. Legal action will be taken if record discrepancies are confirmed.
When asked about alleged embezzlement linked to the Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium project, Kalam said, “We have received the complaint and forwarded it to the central office. Once directives are issued, we will begin investigations to determine what happened to the funds.”
Assistant Director Ahmad Farhad Hossain and other officials from the ACC Rangamati office were also present during the raid.
