Mongla, July 3 (V7N) — Under the theme “Let’s Plant Trees with Purpose to Build a Greener Bangladesh”, the Mongla Port Authority has officially launched its annual tree plantation campaign. The event began with Rear Admiral Shahin Rahman, Chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, planting a Krishnachura (Royal Poinciana) sapling in front of the authority’s headquarters.

Following the chairman’s initiative, Kazi Abed Hossain, Member (Finance) and Director (Administration), planted a flower sapling. Several senior officials from the port were in attendance, including the Director (Board), Harbour Master, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Engineer (Mechanical & Electrical), Chief Hydrographer, Director (Traffic), Chief Security Officer, Chief Auditor, and Chief Medical Officer.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral Shahin Rahman emphasized the importance of trees in coastal areas like Mongla, which frequently face natural calamities such as cyclones and tidal surges. “Just as trees endure harsh weather conditions, they also act as a natural shield, offering protection to the port’s operations,” he said.

He announced that approximately 2,000 saplings—including fruit-bearing, timber, and medicinal plants—will be planted across various zones of the port, including its main office. “Through these efforts, Mongla Port will continue to play a pioneering role in preserving the natural environment and building a greener Bangladesh,” he added.

He also called upon all officers and staff to take collective responsibility for the care and maintenance of previously planted and newly planted trees to ensure their survival and long-term benefit.

The ceremony concluded with a special prayer for the well-being of the nation, the people, and the continued progress of Mongla Port.
