Pabna, Sept 17 (V7N) – The body of a 10-year-old girl, who had been missing for seven days, was recovered from a pond near her home in Pabna Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Kamrunnahar Koli, daughter of Kamal Pramanik of Dogachi Kulonia village in Pabna Sadar. Police recovered her body packed inside a sack from a water-filled ditch near the family home.

Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam confirmed the recovery.

Family members alleged that Koli had been killed and that her body was cut into several pieces before being placed inside a sack and dumped in the ditch. However, police have not yet confirmed the circumstances or cause of her death.

According to the family, Koli went with her father to Sripur Bazar on the evening of September 9. After returning home, she handed a shopping bag to her mother and went outside near the house. When she did not return as evening progressed, family members began searching nearby areas.

At one point, they found the sandals she had been wearing about 200 yards from their home. After searching relatives’ homes and other possible locations without success, Koli’s father filed a general diary (GD) at Pabna Sadar Police Station.

The family subsequently circulated appeals through various channels seeking information about her whereabouts. On Tuesday, September 15, relatives and classmates staged a protest march and human chain in Pabna town demanding that she be found and those responsible be brought to justice.

The following morning, local residents spotted a body inside a sack in a ditch near Koli’s home and informed police. Officers went to the scene and recovered the body, which was later identified by her relatives as that of Koli.

The family alleged that they had provided police with several pieces of information and possible clues after Koli went missing, but claimed that these had not been properly investigated. They suspect that someone from the local area may have been involved, although family members said there had been no known previous dispute between Koli’s father and anyone in the area.

Kamal Pramanik said his daughter went missing at around 6:45pm on September 9.

“We have searched everywhere since she went missing. We want to know who killed my daughter and who caused such a devastating loss to our family,” he said, demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible.

OC Tarikul Islam said police were investigating how the child died and who might have been involved.

“The body was recovered packed inside a sack. We are investigating the circumstances of her death and the people who may be involved. We hope to uncover the mystery and identify those responsible soon,” he said.

The body was sent to the morgue at Pabna General Hospital for autopsy.
