Teknaf, Sept. 06 (V7N) — A primary school headteacher was injured in an alleged attack by armed drug traffickers in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, on Saturday evening.
The injured teacher was identified as Aman Ullah, headteacher of Hnila Maulvibazar Ali Akbar Para Government Primary School. He is the son of late Master Kalim Ullah, a former schoolteacher and freedom fighter from the area.
According to local sources, the incident took place at around 6:30pm on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Raja Kashim’s Market in the Maulvibazar Station area of Hnila Union.
Local sources said a group of suspected armed drug traffickers allegedly attacked Aman Ullah at the market. People inside nearby shops reportedly panicked and fled the area during the incident.
Later, relatives and local residents rescued the injured teacher and took him to the upazila health complex, where he was receiving treatment, according to his family.
Speaking about the incident, Aman Ullah said he had posted on Facebook on Friday, Sept. 4, after Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel arrested a man named Ruhul Amin with 1 lakh yaba tablets near the Maulvibazar border area.
He said that, as a teacher and concerned citizen, he had thanked the authorities for the seizure and called for a further investigation to identify and bring the alleged masterminds behind drug trafficking to justice.
Aman Ullah alleged that several suspected drug traffickers became angry over his Facebook post and subsequently launched a planned attack on him.
He identified the alleged attackers as Mazed, son of Kamal of the Maulvibazar Lamarpara area; Abdullah, son of Mohammad Hossain Bagu; Absar, son of Mohammad Ali alias Madu; and Zuhur Alam, son of Mokbul Ahmed, among others.
Aman Ullah alleged that the group carried out the attack with the intention of causing him serious harm.
Master Mahmudur Rahman, president of the Teknaf Upazila Primary School Teachers’ Association, and Master Zakaria, its general secretary, confirmed the incident and condemned the alleged attack.
They demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the assault, as well as their alleged associates.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Saiful Islam said those involved in the attack would not be given any form of exemption.
He said police would take prompt legal action against the alleged attackers upon receiving a formal complaint.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer S.M. Anik Chowdhury described the incident as unfortunate and expressed concern over the alleged attack on a school headteacher.
He said he had instructed the police to identify those responsible and take necessary legal action as soon as possible.
The allegations of drug trafficking and involvement in the attack could not be independently verified, and the accused individuals were not immediately available for comment.
