Cox’s Bazar, Sept 3 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 14 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as ice, 5,000 yaba pills and 20 bottles of foreign liquor in separate operations in Teknaf and Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar.
Two wooden boats were also seized and a 23-year-old man was arrested during the operations.
According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off that a consignment of crystal meth was being brought from Myanmar through the Naf River, a team conducted an operation in the Jalia Island and Jaliapara areas between 1am and 3am on Thursday.
Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, suspected smugglers abandoned two wooden boats and fled the area.
The Coast Guard later searched the boats and recovered 14 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine and 20 bottles of foreign liquor.
In a separate operation on the same night, Coast Guard personnel conducted a drive in the Palongkhali area of Ukhiya and arrested Mohammad Mostafa, 23, with 5,000 yaba tablets.
Mostafa is the son of Abdul Hakim and a resident of the Palongkhali area.
Teknaf Coast Guard Commander Arafat Hossain said operations and intelligence surveillance would continue to prevent drug trafficking and smuggling.
The seized drugs and other items are being processed for legal action, while further investigation is underway.
