Rangamati, Oct 11 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Army has arrested two active militants of the anti-peace group United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) in Rangamati district, recovering firearms, a walkie-talkie, and other items. The Rangamati military region confirmed the incident.
According to army sources, on Saturday afternoon (October 11), based on intelligence reports, troops set up a special checkpoint in Bogachhari, Rangamati, and conducted searches on all passing vehicles. A motorcycle approaching the checkpoint attempted to flee upon noticing the army’s presence, stopping approximately 150 meters away. The soldiers quickly intercepted the vehicle and apprehended both riders.
Initial questioning and verification against previously collected photographs identified the detainees as UPDF post commander Karma Chakma and his associate Lelin Chakma.
During searches of the suspects, the army recovered one pistol with one magazine, three rounds of ammunition, one walkie-talkie, two mobile phones, and two extortion receipts.
The Bangladesh Army emphasized that operations will continue across Chittagong Hill Tracts to ensure public safety. The army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and protecting all ethnic communities in the region, taking necessary measures whenever required.
