Pabna, Oct 14 (V7N) – The installation of an automated process control system (APCS) has been completed in both units of Bangladesh’s Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna, Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom has announced.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, October 13, Rosatom said Rooppur was also the first project outside Russia where the corporation was implementing an Operator Information Support System (OISS).
The automated control system, supplied by Rosatom’s Automated Control Systems division (RASU), comprises around 20,000 devices across 43 systems. It will monitor more than 7,000 process parameters, including reactor stability, helping ensure the plant’s safe and efficient operation.
Another key component is the OISS, developed by RASU using digital twin technology for the power units. The system has already been connected to Unit 1 and is participating in startup activities. A similar system will be installed in Unit 2.
The system analyses information from 360 process systems, identifies potential deviations and provides operators with recommendations based on more than 80 guidelines, including instructions for responding to emergency situations.
By presenting complex operational information in an accessible format, the system is designed to help control-room operators make informed decisions and respond more effectively to changing conditions.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said Rooppur was not only the largest cooperation project between Russia and Bangladesh but also a leading project in the application of modern automation and control technologies.
“For the first time, an Operator Information Support System is being implemented at a power plant built by Rosatom outside Russia,” he said.
Likhachev added that the system would help reduce response times, lower operating costs and serve as a reliable support tool for control-room personnel.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is being built with two Generation III+ VVER-1200 reactor units. Rosatom’s engineering division, Atomstroyexport, is implementing the construction project.
