Teknaf, July 30 (V7N) — A joint operation by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) led to the recovery of locally made and foreign firearms, ammunition, and hand grenades from a remote hill area in Teknaf’s Hnila union on Tuesday.
The four-hour operation took place between noon and late afternoon in the remote Rangikhali hill area of Golachira, Teknaf. The operation was confirmed later that night by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Commanding Officer of BGB’s Ukhiya Battalion (64).
According to intelligence reports, a group of four armed bandits had established a temporary hideout deep inside the Rangikhali hill. Acting on this information, two special patrol units from BGB and RAB encircled the area. Upon sensing the presence of law enforcement, the suspects fled into the dense forest, firing two warning shots as they escaped.
During a subsequent sweep of the area, the joint team discovered a cache of weapons and explosives hidden at the site. The recovered items included one foreign-made UGI firearm, two single-barrel long guns, four Arges-type hand grenades (with body and fuse sets), and ten rounds of 7.62 x 51 mm NATO ammunition.
Local residents reportedly informed the authorities that the criminal group was involved in drug trafficking, abductions, extortion, killings, and other illicit activities in the Rangikhali region. The successful operation has brought a sense of relief to the local community.
BGB officials stated that the recovered firearms and ammunition have been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station as evidence, while steps are being taken to safely destroy the grenades. Intelligence efforts by both BGB and RAB remain ongoing to identify and apprehend the unidentified suspects involved.
