Dhaka, July 13 (V7N) – A terrorist attack and shooting occurred at a business establishment named AK Builders in the capital’s Pallabi-Albdirtek area on Friday (July 11) afternoon, allegedly due to non-payment of a Tk 5 crore extortion demand. One employee, Shariful Islam, sustained bullet injuries in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.

The attack took place around 5:00 PM, when a group of 30 to 40 armed assailants stormed the housing construction company wielding country-made firearms. CCTV footage captured the chaotic scene, showing several individuals charging toward the office premises—one of whom was seen firing a gun. At one point, one of the attackers was shot and had to be carried away by his accomplices.

According to Amimul Ehsan, son of the company’s chairman Md. Qayum Ali Khan, the attackers had earlier demanded Tk 5 crore in extortion from his father. "Three weeks ago, a man named Jamil demanded the money. After we refused, they attacked our office in phases. They’ve taken away CCTV equipment and issued death threats. Yesterday, they attacked again with full force," he said.

Shariful Islam, who was injured in the shooting, is reported to be in stable condition.

Pallabi Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Islam confirmed the incident, stating: "No case has been filed yet, and no arrests have been made. We are actively working to identify and apprehend those involved."

According to police sources, AK Builders had filed a General Diary (GD) on July 10, alleging a prior attack on June 27, followed by another on July 4. The GD detailed threats, intimidation, and the extortion demand. Despite the warning, the most recent attack was carried out with increased intensity.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the capital, particularly regarding the safety of business establishments from organized extortion rackets.
