Dhaka, Nov 20 (V7N)- Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman has said that the reinstated non-partisan caretaker government system will strengthen Bangladesh’s democratic process. He stated that under this system, “voting will no longer take place during the day or at night, and dead people will not be able to vote.”
He made the remarks on Thursday (November 20) in his initial reaction to the Supreme Court’s ruling restoring the caretaker government system.
The Attorney General said that further clarity would come after the full judgment is published.
“Only after the full report is released will it be known who may serve as the Chief Advisor of the next caretaker government, and whether the structure will follow the previous model or the July Charter,” he added.
He also mentioned that a new version of the constitution should be printed once the full verdict is available.
“The non-partisan caretaker government has returned. However, its composition will be determined by the next parliament,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division declared the verdict abolishing the caretaker government system unconstitutional. The court upheld the Thirteenth Amendment, thereby reinstating the non-partisan caretaker government system into the constitution.
