Dhaka, October 25, 2026 (V7N) – A deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay has intensified and is likely to develop into a cyclonic storm by Monday, according to the Meteorological Department.

The depression is forecast to intensify into a cyclonic storm on October 26 and strengthen further over the following days before making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28.

According to the latest weather bulletin, the deep depression was centred near latitude 15.0°N and longitude 90.8°E at noon on Sunday. It was located approximately 810 kilometres south of Chattogram, 730 kilometres south of Cox's Bazar, 840 kilometres south of Mongla and 780 kilometres south of Payra.

The system is currently moving southwestwards and is expected to continue in that direction before gradually recurving west-northwestwards, the bulletin said.

The deep depression is producing maximum sustained winds of around 50 kilometres per hour within 48 kilometres of its centre, with gusts or squalls reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour. The sea is expected to remain rough near the system's centre.

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No. 1 (R) No. 1.

Meanwhile, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been advised to move closer to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

Authorities are expected to monitor the system's development closely, with further weather bulletins likely as the depression intensifies and tracks towards the Indian coast.
