Dhaka, July 16, (V7N) – Police have arrested the youth who fatally attacked scrap metal trader Sohag with a cement block in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford). The arrest was made in Patuakhali on Tuesday, and the suspect has been identified as Rezwan Uddin Obi.
The information was confirmed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali during a press conference held at the DMP Media Center on Wednesday afternoon.
With Obi’s arrest, the total number of individuals detained in connection with the murder has risen to nine.
According to the DMP Commissioner, Sohag had long been involved in the illegal cable smuggling trade in the Mitford area. A business rivalry is suspected to be the motive behind the brutal killing.
“The attackers incited a mob-like atmosphere to justify their violence,” Commissioner Sajjat Ali said. “Sohag was murdered in a premeditated and organized manner as part of an ongoing turf conflict.”
The incident, which took place in broad daylight, shocked many, raising concerns about organized criminal activity and vigilante-style violence in the capital.
Police say further investigation is underway to identify and arrest other accomplices involved in the planned attack.
