Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to return home on Monday after concluding her six-day official visit to Thailand. Her visit, which began on Wednesday, encompassed both bilateral and multilateral engagements at the invitation of her Thai counterpart, Srettha Thavisin.

During her visit, Prime Minister Hasina engaged in bilateral talks with Thavisin, leading to the signing of five significant documents covering areas such as visa exemption, energy cooperation, tourism, customs matters, and the initiation of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Bangladesh and Thailand.

Addressing an official luncheon hosted by her Thai counterpart, Prime Minister Hasina hailed the visit as a milestone in bilateral relations, emphasizing the establishment of a new era of fruitful partnership between the two nations.

In addition to bilateral discussions, Prime Minister Hasina paid a courtesy call on the King and Queen of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshan, at the Amphorn Satharn Throne Hall in Dusit Palace.

Furthermore, as part of her multilateral engagements, Prime Minister Hasina addressed the 80th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (Unescap) in Bangkok.

The documents signed between Bangladesh and Thailand include an agreement and three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering various areas of cooperation. Notably, negotiations for an FTA are set to commence by the year 2024, as outlined in a Letter of Intent (LOI) signed during the visit.

Prime Minister Hasina was accorded a warm reception upon her arrival at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, marked by a 19-round gun salute, on April 24.
