Dhaka, Sep 06 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged everyone to play a responsible role from their respective positions to ensure pollution-free rivers and a livable environment for future generations.
She made the call at a review meeting held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday morning on pollution control, waste removal, river conservation and management, navigability, and the development of circular waterways around the capital.
The meeting reviewed measures to control pollution and remove waste from the Buriganga, Turag, Dhaleshwari, Balu and Shitalakshya rivers, as well as the canals and drains connected to them.
The progress of initiatives to restore navigability and the normal flow of water in the rivers was also discussed. Development activities related to the circular waterways around Dhaka were reviewed as well.
The Prime Minister directed the authorities to take effective steps to implement the plans already undertaken as quickly as possible. She also stressed the need for proper coordination among the concerned ministries, departments and organizations to ensure timely implementation.
Tarique Rahman said efforts must be made to protect the rivers and create a livable environment not only for future generations but also for the present population.
She urged everyone to act from a sense of personal responsibility instead of waiting solely for government directives to protect the country's rivers and environment.
