Dhaka, Sep 03 (V7N)- President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has instructed the police to be firm in suppressing wrongdoing while remaining fair and humane in protecting what is right.

The President gave the directive during a courtesy meeting with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir at Bangabhaban on Thursday (September 3).

He said police must perform their duties with honesty, dedication and professionalism to maintain law and order and combat crime. He also instructed the police to take prompt and appropriate measures to ensure the rule of law.

The President directed the IGP to take effective steps to prevent cybercrime, misinformation, disinformation and rumors, as well as robbery, extortion and drug trafficking.

He also called for necessary measures to ensure the safety of women and children and stressed the importance of regularly informing the public about such issues.

At the meeting, the President instructed the police to continue effective efforts to prevent extrajudicial killings, harassment of citizens and false cases.

He said the government is committed to protecting the fundamental human and democratic rights of the people.

During the meeting, IGP Md Ali Hossain Fakir briefed the President on various initiatives to modernize and digitize the police force and strengthen the morale of its members.

The President assured the IGP of all-out cooperation whenever necessary in carrying out his responsibilities.
