Cox's Bazar, Jul 18 (V7N)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is committed to serving the country and its people, emphasizing that the government will continue to stand beside citizens during any crisis or natural disaster.

He made the remarks on Saturday morning while addressing a ceremony organized by the Alhaj Shamsul Haque Foundation at the Pekua Upazila Parishad premises in Cox's Bazar. At the event, household items were distributed to 100 families who lost their homes in the recent floods.

The Home Minister said BNP's politics is centered on the welfare of the people because it is a government elected by the public.

"BNP does politics for the country and its people. Since we are a government elected by the people, we will always stand by them in any disaster or hardship. This is the ideology, objective and commitment of the BNP," he said.

Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Salahuddin Ahmed said the government's guiding principle is "Bangladesh First, People Before Power."

"Our responsibility is to the people, not to power. We will always remain beside the people during floods or any other natural disaster," he added.

The minister also announced government support for farmers affected by the recent floods, saying assistance would not be limited to families whose homes were damaged.

He said farmers who suffered losses to crops, seedbeds and seedlings would receive necessary agricultural assistance, including seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other farm inputs, to help them resume cultivation.

Highlighting the government's broader priorities, Salahuddin Ahmed said its commitment is to protect the interests of ordinary people, especially the poor.

"Our commitment is to stand by the poor, stand by the people of this country and ensure justice for them. The Prime Minister has presented a people-friendly and pro-poor budget this year aimed at preventing increases in the prices of essential commodities, and we are already seeing its impact," he said.
