Dhaka, Jul 03 (V7N) — Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said the government will undertake necessary legal reforms to make the country's cyber law more up-to-date and effective, adding that opinions and recommendations from legal experts will be sought before finalizing the changes.
He made the remarks while addressing the annual meeting of the Law Reporters Forum at the Supreme Court on Friday.
The minister said the government would quickly collect views and suggestions from lawyers and other stakeholders before taking the necessary steps to modernize the cyber legal framework.
Emphasizing the role of the media, Swapan said that although the media serves as the mirror of the state and society, "that mirror is still not perfect." He stressed the need to ensure responsible, objective and professional journalism in the country.
Responding to questions from journalists after the meeting regarding media statements perceived as supporting the banned Awami League, the minister said the government would act in accordance with existing laws.
"If anyone violates the law while making statements for or against any historical event, legal action will be taken," he said.
