Dhaka, Jul 02 (V7N) — The government is working to ensure improved education, healthcare, training, and other essential services for persons with disabilities through a one-stop service initiative, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin said on Thursday.

She made the remarks after a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Coordination and Implementation Committee on Disability Rights and Service Protection held at the Secretariat.

The state minister said the pilot project will be launched in 20 to 25 upazilas across at least 10 districts, aiming to provide integrated services and better implement the rights of people with disabilities and special needs.

Meanwhile, State Minister for Health Dr. M.A. Muhith said healthcare services for children with disabilities will be expanded through the 'Shishuswarg' programme in at least 20 to 25 upazilas during the current fiscal year.

He added that the government has already begun identifying and compiling a comprehensive database of children and individuals with disabilities and special needs to ensure they receive appropriate services and support.

To strengthen implementation, two committees have been formed to oversee initiatives related to disability rights and welfare. According to the state minister, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will chair one of the committees.
