Dhaka, Jun 30 (V7N) — Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has announced that madrasa teachers across the country will begin receiving their salaries regularly from next July. He also said that two months' outstanding salaries will be paid along with the July salary.
The minister made the announcement while speaking at the award distribution ceremony for the best educational institutions and outstanding Fazil and Kamil students affiliated with the Islamic Arabic University at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital on Tuesday (June 30) morning.
Milon said that around 17,000 teachers have been appointed in madrasas through the Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) since last September to address a severe shortage of teachers.
He said the appointments were urgently needed because many teaching positions had remained vacant. Although the interim government completed the recruitment process quickly, it did not allocate the necessary funds in the national budget.
According to the minister, after the current government assumed office, it found that Tk 501 crore was required to pay the newly appointed teachers, but no budgetary provision had been made. As a result, madrasa teachers were unable to receive salaries for two months.
"From July, salaries will be paid regularly, and the two months' arrears will also be cleared," the education minister said.
Addressing students at the event, Milon urged those pursuing Islamic education to rise above partisan politics and follow the true teachings of Islam. Referring to the recent parliamentary debate on Jamaat-e-Islami, he also called on students to remain committed to the values and principles of Islam.
