June 29 (v7n)- The parliamentary standing committee on the law, justice, and parliamentary affairs ministry reconvened today for its adjourned meeting of the first session of the 13th parliament. The high-profile legislative session took place at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The proceedings were led and managed by the committee's chairman, Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho.
According to an official parliamentary press release, the primary focus of the meeting was to thoroughly deliberate on two significant pieces of upcoming legislation. The lawmakers dedicated a substantial amount of time to discussing the Narcotics Control (Amendment) Bill 2026. Alongside the drug enforcement policies, they also held extensive talks regarding the Public Examinations (Offences) Amendment Bill 2026.
Following these comprehensive debates, the committee decided not to rush the legislative process. Instead, they formally recommended that a detailed report be submitted to the parliament floor only after both bills undergo a exhaustive verification process and a meticulous legal review. This step ensures that all amendments are fully vetted before being integrated into national law.
The meeting saw active participation from several key committee members, including the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister himself, Md Asaduzzaman. He was joined in the legislative evaluations by fellow committee lawmakers Muhammad Nawshad Zamir, Shakila Farzana, and M Manzurul Islam, who all shared their perspectives on the proposed legal updates.
In addition to the core members, the session benefited from the input of lawmakers M Hasan Rajib Prodhan, Akhter Hossen, and Al Faruque Abdul Latif. Notably, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed was also in attendance, having joined the legal proceedings under a special invitation to provide his ministry's perspective on the enforcement aspects of the bills.
Rounding out the attendance list was a group of top-tier bureaucratic executives from the relevant government sectors. This included the secretary of the law and judiciary division, the secretary of the legislative and parliamentary affairs division, and several other senior officials from the parliament secretariat, who provided technical guidance throughout the session.
