Dhaka, Jun 29 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday called on Banglalink to take steps to make smartphones more affordable and internet services more accessible, aiming to expand digital inclusion across Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Augie Fabela, Chairman of Banglalink's parent company, VEON, at the Prime Minister's Office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban complex at 9:30 a.m.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to make digital services more accessible to people across the country and further accelerate Bangladesh's digital transformation.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged Banglalink to introduce initiatives that would reduce the cost of smartphones, enabling people from all walks of life to own internet-enabled devices and benefit from digital technologies.
He also called on the mobile operator to consider further lowering internet prices so that affordable connectivity becomes available to a broader segment of the population.
The Prime Minister emphasized that wider access to smartphones and lower-cost internet services would help ensure that citizens across the country can more easily benefit from digital services and opportunities.
