Dhaka, Jun 27 (V7N) – State Minister for Health Dr. MA Muhith has announced that the Department of Health has finalized a special project aimed at bringing children with disabilities across both rural and urban Bangladesh under the government's healthcare system.
He made the announcement while addressing the inauguration of the service activities of the CSF Center in Karail, one of the capital's largest informal settlements, on Saturday morning.
The state minister said the initiative would extend specialized healthcare services for children with disabilities to the upazila level, ensuring that they receive necessary medical care closer to their communities.
According to Dr. Muhith, the national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year, scheduled for approval on June 30, includes dedicated financial allocations for persons with disabilities, with particular emphasis on disability assessment, early identification and rehabilitation.
He said the government's development agenda places equal importance on ensuring human dignity and equal rights for all citizens, especially those from disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.
"True development means ensuring equal rights and opportunities for every person in society," the state minister said, adding that the government is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of people with disabilities across the country.
Describing the administration as a humanitarian government, Dr. Muhith said structural reforms are being introduced to ensure that children born with congenital or developmental conditions are not neglected and are provided with access to healthcare, education, employment opportunities and a dignified life.
He added that the Department of Health's new project would be implemented in every upazila, allowing children with special needs in both urban and rural areas to come directly under the government's healthcare network.
The state minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to promote inclusive education for children with disabilities. He said initiatives have been taken to increase their participation in mainstream educational institutions at the district and upazila levels through teacher training programmes and improvements to school infrastructure to create a more accessible learning environment.
He expressed hope that the combined healthcare and education initiatives would significantly improve the quality of life and future opportunities for children with disabilities across Bangladesh.
