Dhaka, Jun 16 (V7N)- Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has defended the government’s decision to cancel the license of Ad-Din Hospital following the death of six children, saying that those responsible cannot avoid accountability.

He made the remarks on Tuesday morning while speaking at the unveiling of the guidelines on measles treatment and management held at Holy Family Medical College in Eskaton.

The Health Minister said that the incident occurred after the air conditioning in a closed room was turned off for about two hours, causing a lack of oxygen. He claimed that the children should have been immediately shifted from the room, adding that when one child improved after being moved, the remaining patients should also have been transferred without delay.

He further alleged that six children died consecutively in the same situation and criticized the hospital authorities for failing to inspect or prioritize the condition of the room.

Defending the government’s action, the minister said cancelling the hospital’s license was justified and stressed that those responsible for negligence in such tragic incidents must face justice. He also expressed confidence that any appeal filed by Ad-Din Hospital against the decision would ultimately be ruled in favor of the government.

In the same event, he also spoke about the development of Holy Family Medical College, stating that the government plans to improve the institution and increase student intake. He urged doctors to show greater compassion and humanity in treating patients.
