Dhaka, Jun 14 (V7N) – Information and Communication Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam has said that science education is essential for survival in today’s highly competitive global environment, warning that nations without strong scientific and technological foundations will struggle to keep pace internationally.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the 47th National Science and Technology Week on Sunday morning.

The ICT Minister emphasized that only countries with strong innovation capacity will move forward in the modern world. He stressed the importance of increasing investment in Bangladesh’s technology sector to build a knowledge-based economy capable of competing globally.

He also said that Bangladesh is entering a new phase of development, highlighting ongoing major infrastructure and energy projects, including the Rooppur nuclear power initiative, which he said will require a large pool of skilled scientists and engineers to operate and manage.

According to him, the government’s vision is to transform Bangladesh into a knowledge-driven nation where science, research, and innovation form the foundation of long-term development.

Officials and participants at the event said the National Science and Technology Week aims to encourage students and young researchers to engage more deeply in scientific innovation and technological advancement, helping build a future workforce aligned with global demands.
