Dhaka, Jun 06 (V7N) – A five-member investigation committee has been formed to determine the actual cause of the fire that broke out at the cargo complex of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat said.
The minister made the announcement after visiting the scene of the fire on Friday night. He stated that the cargo house where the fire occurred was storing goods beyond its designated capacity, raising concerns about operational safety and storage management.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, firefighters responded immediately after receiving reports of the incident. The blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the facility. However, it took approximately one and a half hours to completely extinguish the fire and ensure the area was safe.
The fire broke out in the courier operation zone of the cargo complex adjacent to Gate No. 9 of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday evening. Four units of the Fire Service were deployed to the scene and carried out the firefighting operation.
Officials said the swift response helped prevent major losses and significant damage to airport infrastructure or stored cargo.
Authorities are now awaiting the findings of the investigation committee, which will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The cargo complex is one of the key facilities handling imports and exports through Bangladesh's busiest international airport, making safety and operational efficiency a matter of national importance.
