Dhaka, May 12 (V7N) — The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said that a total of 568 criminals have been arrested as part of its ongoing special operation to maintain law and order in the capital.
DMP Additional Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam made the announcement at a press briefing held on Tuesday morning (May 12) at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media Center.
He said that as of May 11, authorities had arrested 154 extortionists and 261 robbers as part of the intensified drive.
According to him, a special unit of the Detective Branch (DB) under the Wari Zone conducted a raid in the Jatrabari area, arresting five professional robbers.
Preliminary interrogation of the arrested individuals revealed that the group had been planning to target a large bKash agent or a gold shop ahead of the upcoming Eid, he added.
The official also stated that individuals involved in the killing of top criminal “Titon” are currently under surveillance and would be arrested soon.
Police said the ongoing operation will continue to ensure public safety in Dhaka, particularly ahead of the Eid season when criminal activities often increase.
