Jessore, Apr 27 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that LPG cards will be introduced for women to ensure better cooking facilities, alongside the existing family card system.

He made the announcement while addressing a public gathering on Monday (April 27) morning after inaugurating the Ulshi Canal Re-Excavation Project in Jessore.

The Prime Minister outlined several initiatives aimed at empowering women, including plans to introduce free education for girls up to degree level and scholarships for meritorious female students. He emphasized that these steps are part of the government’s broader effort to improve women’s welfare and participation in development.

Highlighting earlier initiatives, he noted that Krishi Cards have already been introduced and agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000 have been waived. He added that the government is working to reopen closed factories within the next two to four months, in consultation with industrial entrepreneurs.

The Prime Minister said that illegal filling and encroachment had blocked the natural flow of the Ulshi canal, depriving farmers of irrigation benefits. The re-excavation project is expected to benefit around 20,000 farmers directly.

He also announced that approximately 3,000 trees will be planted along both sides of the canal as part of environmental conservation efforts.

Referring to political developments, Tarique Rahman said that following the fall of the previous government on August 5, 2024, all political parties signed the July Charter, and the current administration is committed to implementing its promises in phases.

However, he warned that certain groups are attempting to create confusion by misinterpreting the charter for their own interests.

After the Sharsha activities, the Prime Minister is scheduled to stay at the Jessore Circuit House. Later in the day, he will lay the foundation stone of Jessore Medical College Hospital and address another public meeting at the Central Eidgah Maidan before returning to Dhaka in the evening.
