Dhaka, Apr 16 (V7N) — A growing fuel crisis in the capital has led to long queues of vehicles at filling stations across the city, causing widespread public suffering and traffic congestion.
Since early Thursday morning, drivers and vehicle owners have been seen lining up for hours at petrol pumps in different parts of Dhaka, hoping to secure fuel amid uncertain supply.
Many drivers said they were unable to refuel the previous night as several pumps remained closed. As a result, some spent the entire night waiting outside stations to secure an early position in line. However, even that did not guarantee access to fuel.
The situation has been further aggravated by a lack of clear information regarding fuel distribution. Drivers alleged that a so-called “VIP line” was being formed in the morning hours, allowing certain vehicles to bypass the general queue. This claim, however, has been denied by pump authorities.
Frustrated commuters and transport operators have called for immediate government intervention to resolve the crisis. They also demanded transparent communication regarding fuel supply schedules, including where, when, and how much fuel is being distributed.
Meanwhile, the long queues have spilled onto major roads, creating traffic congestion in several areas of the city. Drivers waiting in line reported physical exhaustion due to the heat, along with mental stress caused by uncertainty and prolonged delays.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement addressing the situation.
