Tangail, Mar 19 (V7N) — Traffic is moving slowly along the 20-kilometer stretch of the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge Highway from the Rabna bypass area to the Jamuna Bridge, causing major difficulties for travelers heading home for Eid-ul-Fitr.
The congestion began on Thursday morning as a large number of vehicles hit the road. Heavy traffic and vehicle breakdowns at several points have further slowed movement, leaving passengers stranded for long periods. Children and families are reportedly facing the most hardship. Many travelers, unable to secure bus tickets, have been forced to travel home in trucks.
Authorities are working to ease the situation. Police are deployed along the highway, and the army is also on alert to assist in maintaining smooth traffic flow.
District Superintendent of Police Shamsul Alam Sarkar said about 1,000 law enforcement personnel have been deployed to ensure travelers can reach North Bengal safely and enjoy Eid with their families.
The heavy congestion highlights the recurring challenges of holiday travel in Bangladesh, as millions leave Dhaka to return to their hometowns during Eid.
