Vienna, Mar 18 (V7N) – Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed held a key bilateral meeting with UK Home Secretary Lord Hanson in Vienna, seeking cooperation on police reform and the Rohingya issue.
The meeting took place in the ‘MOE3’ room of the Vienna International Centre on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Home Ministry.
During the discussion, Salahuddin Ahmed requested the United Kingdom’s technical and training assistance to strengthen Bangladesh Police through strategic reform, enhanced human rights protection, and greater institutional accountability. He highlighted the professionalism and experience of British policing as a model for modernization efforts in Bangladesh.
The Home Minister also urged the UK to maintain international pressure to ensure the safe, voluntary, and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya refugees.
Referring to a recent meeting with British High Commissioner Sarah Cook in Dhaka, Ahmed emphasized the need to expand cooperation in security reform, migration management, and the criminal justice system. He expressed appreciation for the UK’s continued support for Bangladesh’s stability and democratic reform process following the 2026 national elections.
Lord Hanson praised Bangladesh’s commitment to security sector reforms and its role in maintaining regional stability, assuring continued cooperation in the areas discussed.
