Dhaka, Mar 05 (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken steps to reduce electricity consumption at the Secretariat by cutting the use of lights and air conditioning in his office, while also urging ministries and institutions across the country to adopt similar measures.
According to the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, the directive was implemented on Thursday morning.
Rumon said the Prime Minister, after arriving at his office, switched off around 50 percent of the lights in his room and adjusted the air conditioner temperature to 25.1 degrees Celsius, a level that helps reduce electricity consumption.
He added that when the Prime Minister entered the Cabinet Room, he also ordered that half of the lights be switched off there and the air conditioner temperature be increased to save energy.
Building No. 1 of the Secretariat houses the Prime Minister’s Office along with the Cabinet Division and several departments operating under the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister has also called on all ministries at the Secretariat, government offices, courts, private buildings, shopping malls, and institutions across the country to use electricity more responsibly. He advised reducing unnecessary lighting and making greater use of natural sunlight in offices and homes during the daytime to conserve energy.
The initiative is seen as part of a broader effort to encourage energy efficiency and responsible electricity consumption nationwide.
