Dhaka, Feb 28 (V7N) – State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain said he is open to participating in the upcoming Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral election if his party nominates him. He made the remarks after a courtesy meeting with Dhaka South City Administrator Abdus Salam on Saturday afternoon.
“I will vote if the party thinks and nominates me, and if no one else steps forward, then I can participate in the election,” he said.
Referring to party directives, Hossain noted that party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul stated, “A decision will be made in parliament on local government.” He added that the final decision on nominations will be made by the party after several remaining processes are completed.
Hossain also raised concerns over voter trends, saying that rival political parties received an “abnormal rate” of votes in certain areas. He cited historical data, noting that in his constituency, Jamaat-e-Islami received around 3,000 votes in 1996, while recently the same areas recorded 6,000 votes for the rival party.
“I will request the government to verify the voter list and ensure it is accurate,” he said, emphasizing the need for a correct and transparent electoral process.
