Dhaka, Feb 09 (V7N)- Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has said that the police will perform their duties neutrally in the upcoming national elections, moving away from the role played in previous elections.

He made the statement at a press conference on election security held at the DMP Media Center on Monday (February 9) afternoon.

Responding to questions from journalists regarding allegations of protesters being beaten with batons last Friday, the DMP Commissioner said that the police could not remain inactive if anyone attempted to enter the residence of the Chief Advisor.

“Any movement in the area surrounding the Chief Advisor’s residence is completely prohibited,” he said, adding that such actions a few days before the election are intentional.

He further said that 10 to 20 people blocking roads and causing public suffering would not be allowed to continue such activities, stressing that law enforcement would act to ensure public order.

Providing details on election security in the capital, Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said that there are 2,131 polling centers in Dhaka. Among them, 114 have been identified as important centers, where four police personnel will be deployed at each center. Additionally, 37 centers have been classified as risky, and seven police personnel will be deployed at each of those locations.

The DMP Commissioner said that there is no security threat surrounding the election.

“The environment is better than usual. There is a wonderful atmosphere,” he added.
