Dhaka, Feb 09 (V7N)- Bangladesh Bank has imposed temporary restrictions on mobile financial services (MFS) and internet banking to prevent the misuse of money during the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election.

According to a directive issued by the Payment Systems Department-1 of the central bank on Sunday, person-to-person (P2P) money transfers through mobile banking apps and internet banking (IBFT under NPSB) will remain suspended for 96 hours, from 12:00 am on Monday (February 9) to 11:59 pm on Thursday (February 12).

The central bank said the decision was taken to ensure financial security and transparency during the election period and to prevent any unlawful financial activities.

In addition, all mobile financial service providers have been instructed to set up quick response cells to receive and resolve election-related complaints. During this period, all transactions will be kept under strict monitoring, and any suspicious or unusual activity must be reported immediately to the concerned police station.

Bangladesh Bank further stated that P2P internet banking transactions will remain completely closed throughout the restriction period. Banks and MFS providers have also been directed to provide full cooperation to the Election Commission and law enforcement agencies during the elections.
