Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) — Police have identified the motorcycle used in the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and Dhaka-8 MP candidate Sharif Osman Hadi and arrested its owner, Abdul Hannan, from the Mohammadpur area of the capital.
The police confirmed the development in a text message issued on Sunday (December 14).
Meanwhile, digital investigative media outlet The Descent has claimed to have identified the motorcycle driver who allegedly transported Faisal Karim Masud, the main suspect accused of opening fire on Osman Hadi.
According to The Descent, the alleged bike driver’s name is Alamgir Hossain, whose Facebook account operates under the name Mohammad Alamgir Sheikh. The outlet reported that Alamgir frequently used the geotag ‘Sunibid Housing’ in the Adabor area of Mohammadpur in his Facebook posts.
The media outlet further claimed that it verified Alamgir’s identity by cross-checking multiple photographs from his Facebook profile with public relations photos of Osman Hadi taken on December 5 and December 12. The Descent also reported that Alamgir was present at Osman Hadi’s election campaign at the Shilpakala Academy area on December 5.
However, law enforcement agencies have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the alleged motorcycle driver named by The Descent.
Earlier, Osman Hadi was shot in the Bijoynagar–Paltan area on December 12 and is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The incident has triggered widespread political condemnation and raised serious concerns over candidate safety ahead of the 13th National Parliament election.
Police officials said investigations are ongoing and assured that all individuals involved in the attack will be brought to justice.
