Khartoum/Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N) – Six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and eight others injured after terrorists launched a surprise attack on a United Nations peacekeeping base in the Abyei area of Sudan on Saturday (December 13).
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate of the Bangladesh Armed Forces confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, stating that the attack targeted a UN camp in Abyei and resulted in casualties among Bangladeshi troops deployed as part of the UN mission. The post added that fighting was ongoing in the area at the time of reporting.
According to the latest information released by the Bangladesh Army, a total of 14 Bangladeshi peacekeepers were affected in the attack, including six fatalities and eight injured personnel. The wounded are receiving necessary medical treatment, and evacuation and rescue operations are underway with full efforts from the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, international news agency AFP, citing hospital sources, reported that a UN facility was attacked in Sudan’s Kordofan region, resulting in six deaths.
Officials said the security situation in the area remains unstable, with clashes continuing between peacekeeping forces and armed groups. Authorities have assured that further details will be shared as more information becomes available.
