Dhaka, Dec 10 (V7N) – Bangladesh received a total of Tk 100 crore 80 lakh (equivalent to $1.008 billion) in remittances during the first eight days of December, averaging Tk 12 crore 60 lakh per day, according to Arif Hossain Khan, Executive Director and Spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank.
He noted that during the same period last year, remittances totaled Tk 83 crore 10 lakh, reflecting a significant year-on-year increase. On December 8 alone, expatriates sent Tk 13 crore 10 lakh back to the country.
From the start of the current fiscal year in July up to December 8, remittances have reached Tk 1,404 crore 60 lakh ($14.046 billion), showing an 18.4 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
The highest monthly remittance this fiscal year was recorded in November, totaling Tk 288 crore 95 lakh 20 thousand. In October and September, remittances stood at Tk 256 crore 34 lakh 80 thousand and Tk 268 crore 58 lakh 80 thousand, respectively. In August and July, remittances amounted to Tk 242 crore 18 lakh 90 thousand and Tk 247 crore 80 lakh.
For the entire 2024-25 fiscal year, expatriates sent a record Tk 3,032 crore 80 lakh ($30.32 billion), the highest annual inflow in the country’s history.
Experts say that the steady growth in remittances not only strengthens Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves but also provides crucial income for millions of families and supports domestic consumption and development projects.
