Dhaka, Oct 28 (V7N)- The National Consensus Commission has recommended holding a referendum before or on the day of the national elections and urged immediate communication with the Election Commission (EC).
Vice-Chairman Dr. Ali Riaz made the announcement at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday afternoon. He said the commission’s implementation recommendations will be shared with all political parties by the end of the day.
Dr. Riaz stated that 48 issues have been proposed for constitutional implementation, which will be included in a single referendum. He also recommended that issues not conflicting with the constitution should be implemented quickly through government ordinances.
Regarding the Constitutional Reform Council, he said it will be formed within nine months of the next national parliament. If it fails to implement the proposed measures within 270 days, the issues in the July Charter will automatically be incorporated into the constitution.
On the signing of the July Charter, Dr. Riaz added that the commission is in contact with parties that have not yet signed, including the NCP, and expressed hope that they will join the initiative.
