Dhaka, August 11 (V7N) — Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus departs today (Monday) for a three-day official bilateral visit to Malaysia at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The high-profile trip, scheduled from August 11 to 13, is expected to deepen diplomatic, economic, and labor relations between the two nations.
The Chief Adviser is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including his foreign affairs, expatriates' welfare, energy, and national security advisers, along with the executive chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and other senior officials.
At a press briefing held Sunday afternoon, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Shah Asif Rahman shared details of the visit. They described it as a “highly significant” trip aimed at strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as labor migration, investment, defense, and energy.
Upon arrival in Malaysia, Dr. Yunus will be formally received with a guard of honor. On Tuesday, a closed-door meeting is scheduled between Dr. Yunus and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya, followed by official bilateral talks between the two countries' delegations.
Following these meetings, the two sides are expected to sign five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), covering:
Defense and energy cooperation, Formation of a bilateral business council
Collaboration between Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) and Malaysian chipmaker MIMOS
Institutional partnership between BIISS (Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies) and ISIS Malaysia (Institute of Strategic and International Studies)
In addition, three Exchange of Notes may be signed, focused on halal ecosystem development, higher education cooperation, and diplomatic training programs.
The visit will also include a joint press briefing, a state luncheon in Dr. Yunus’s honor, and his participation in a business forum. Dr. Yunus is expected to meet with members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Malaysia during the trip.
Officials anticipate that the visit will pave the way for renewed labor recruitment from Bangladesh, boost Malaysian investment, and reinforce bilateral strategic alignment in the Indo-Pacific region.
