Dhaka, Jun 27 (V7N) – The National Parliament on Saturday unanimously adopted a motion of thanks describing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's recent official visits to Malaysia and China as an "unprecedented success."
The motion was passed by voice vote at the beginning of the 16th sitting of the first and second budget sessions of the 13th National Parliament, with support from both treasury and opposition lawmakers.
The motion was moved by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who congratulated Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman on the successful completion of his six-day visit to Malaysia and China from June 21 to 26.
Presenting the motion, Mirza Fakhrul said the Prime Minister represented Bangladesh on the international stage on behalf of a democratic government after nearly 18 years of what he described as a period of "fascist rule."
He said the visits, which took place just four months after the formation of the current government, were highly significant for Bangladesh's diplomatic and economic interests.
According to the minister, the tour helped strengthen Bangladesh's bilateral relations with both Malaysia and China, leading to the signing of several agreements and expanding cooperation in multiple sectors based on mutual respect and shared interests.
Mirza Fakhrul also praised the Prime Minister for introducing what he described as a positive change in Bangladesh's political culture by ending the long-standing practice of organizing large-scale public receptions during official foreign visits.
Following the discussion, the Speaker placed the motion before the House, where it was unanimously approved by voice vote with the support of lawmakers from both the government and opposition benches.
The passage of the motion reflects Parliament's formal appreciation of the Prime Minister's diplomatic engagements and their expected contribution to strengthening Bangladesh's international partnerships and economic cooperation.
